Beaver Bested on Road to Schuylkill 107-90
Lions lose in tough conference game to Penn State Schuylkill with a score of 107-90
Schuylkill Haven, PA - The Lions of Penn State Beaver hit the road again today to take on Penn State Schuylkill in day 2 of their annual cross-over event for the PSUAC. Though the team was unsuccessful in brining home a win today they did finish the weekend 1-1. Finishing the game with a score of 107-90 the team had a hard battle in this conference match-up. With a 54-54 tie game going into the half things were looking good for Beaver until a they hit a low scoring run in the second half. Beaver was lead offensively by First-year, Ronyell Coston (Eastern Shre, VA) who scored 21 point this game. Beaver's defensive game was lead by Fourth-year, Matt Brown (Upland, CA) who had 10 rebounds and 2 steals. Starting the scoring for Beaver this game was, Second-year, Jermaine Knaff (Quincy, IL) who scored off a jump shot. Just under the 16 minute mark in the first half, Beaver was down 11-4, and made a great offensive scoring run through the 11:34 mark where they tied the game up 19-19 with many people scoring and Coston tying it up. Beaver took their first lead of the game at 9:51 when Third-year, Trevor Franklin (Stafford, VA) made a jump shot, making the score 26-25.Beaver quickly went up by 4 almost a minute later with a 3-point shot being made by Allen Cole (King of Prussia, PA) making the score 31-27. It continued to be a back and fourth battle this first half which was finished by Coston scoring off a free-throw at 0:53 bringing the socre fo 54-48 and leaving the remaining scoring to Schuylkill to tie it up. Coming out of the locker room, Beaver quickly went down by 8 not scoring until almost 3 minutes in with a Cole 3-pointer. Beaver was trying to keep this game close being down between 5 and 7 more the majority of the half and could have kept it that way if they were able to score a it more regularly instead of in short team bursts. Coston closed out this half as well with a jump shot brining the team to their 90 points.
First-year, Ronyell Coston (Easter Shore, VA) played a strong game scoring 21 points, with 1 rebound, 1 assist and 2 steals.Tying for second highest scorer for Beaver today was Second-year Alex Green (Chicago, IL) who scored 17 points, had 1 rebound, 2 assists, and 3 steals; along with Third-year, Trevor Franklin (Stafford, VA) who had 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 assist. Fourth-year Matt Brown (Upland, CA) led the team with rebounds pulling down 10 today and scored 13 as well, which is good for his first double-double of the season. Brown also had 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Third-year, Jalen Vaughn (Beaver Falls, PA) had 10 points this game while First-year, Allen Cole (King of Prussia, PA) had 8 points. Beaver had 23 rebounds, 13 assists, 13 steals, and 2 blocks this game.
Penn State Beaver Men's Basketball is now 3-7 overall while being 2-2 in conference. The Men's Basketball team will take the court again this Friday, Decemebr 13th at 8pm to take on PSUAC competition, Penn State Scranton in the Beaver Fieldhouse.
