Overtime Battle Leaves Beaver Victorious
Lions Beat Penn State York in thrilling overtime battle with a score of 89-85
Monaca, PA - The Men's Basketball team took on Penn State York in their final game of PSUAC play opening weekend. In a thrilling battle, both teams had their ups and downs which took the game into overtime. Down by 9 going into the half, Beaver had a lot of work to do. Beaver fought back in the second half and outscored Penn State York for the final half and in overtime. Winning this game with a score of 89-85, Beaver had a lot of great things going on this game. The start for Beaver was slow but quickly picked up with a jump shot made by Third-year, Jalen Vaughn (Beaver Falls, PA) which was quickly followed up by Third-year, Trevor Franklin (Stafford, VA) who stole the ball and then made a layup. Beaver took their first lead of the game when Fourth-year, Matt Brown (Upland, CA) made a layup bringing the score to 23-22. Franklin made a 3-point shot to finish out the half for Beaver within the final minute of the half. Coming out of the locker room, Second-year, Josh McCloud (Houston, TX) made a layup, and then First-year, Joe Pinto (Kenilworth, NJ) made a layup scoring 4 to begin their huge scoring jump this half. McCloud made a free-throw with 17 seconds left in the game taking Beaver up by two when York made a jump shot with 8 seconds remaining. York missed their 3-point attempt sending the game into overtime. Beaver scored early and first in overtime which was a great start for the team. After winning the tip in overtime Fourth-year,. Matt Brown (Upland, CA) made a layup which was followed up by Third-year, Trevor Franklin (Stafford, VA) who made a 3-point shot taking the team up by 5 less and a minute into overtime. McCloud scored the final two points for Beaver off another 2 free-throws and going 9 for 12 from the line. Beaver took the lead early in the 2nd half and it proved to be helpful in the drive through the end of the game.
Fourth-year, Matt Brown (Upland, CA) played a strong game scoring 17 points, with an impressive 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and had 1 steal. Also coming off the bench with Brown was Second-year, Jermaine Knaff (Quincy, IL) who scored 16 points, had 2 assists, and 1 steal. Third-year, Trevor Franklin (Stafford, VA) and Second-year, Josh McCloud (Houston, TX) both scored highly for Beaver with 14 points and 15 points respectively. Second-year, Xavier Ryan (Philadelphia, PA) and First-year, Allen Cole (King of Prussia, PA) both scored 7 points for Beaver. Beaver had 27 rebounds, 16 assists, 10 steals, and 2 blocks. The team was also 24-31 from the free throw line for a 77.4% success rate and shot 29-66 from the field for a 43.9%.
Penn State Beaver Men's Basketball is now 2-5 overall and 1-1 in conference. The Men's Basketball team will take on Ohio Dominican at 5:30pm on Tuesday, November 26th when they travel to take them on in Columbus.
