Beaver falls to Franciscan 73-50
The Barons of Franciscan take down the Penn State Beaver Lions as they close out the weekend.
Steubenville, OH - Today the Lions traveled to Steubenville, OH to take on the Barons of Franciscan in a non-conference match-up. Beaver started the game slow with 17 points in the first half but picked up some momentum in the second scoring 33 points. With a final score of 73-50 in favor of Franciscan, Beaver was unable to secure a win coming home with another non-conference loss. Second-year, Jermaine Knaff (Quincy, IL) scored the first points for the Lions off of a 3-point shot almost 4 minutes into the game but this helped bring Beaver back within 1 early in the game. Second-year, Alex Green (Chicacgo, IL) scored with a lay-up shortly after helping Beaver take their only lead of the game. Third-Year, Jalen Vaughn (Beaver Falls, PA) scored the final points of the half with a little ove three minutes to go in the half. Beaver took shot and had great defensive plays but it wasn't enough to even up the score. Starting the second half down by 14 the Lions were ready to battle. First-year, Ny'Zir Dix (Eastern Shore, VA) started the scoring off for Beaver this half with a layup. In the second half, Beaver was on the line quite a few time with Francsican fouling more often than not. First-year, Chayson Coleman (Cincinnati, OH) who made his free throw to end the game and bring Beaver to their 50 points.
Third-Year, Trevor Franklin (Stafford, VA) had a fantastic game both offensively and defensively soring 10 points, having 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Along with that Third-year Jalen Vaughn (Beaver Falls, PA) scored 10 points and had 6 rebounds. First-year Jermaine Knaff (Quincy, IL) played tough with 7 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block. Third-year, Teon Wynn Jr. (Cleveland, OH) scored 9 points, had 1 rebound, and 1 steal, while also going 5-9 from the free-throw line. First-year, Joe Pinto (Kenilworth, NJ) and Fourth-year, Matt Brown (Upland, CA) both added to the teams defensive stats with 1 and 2 blocks respectively as well as 6 and 4 rebounds respectively as well. Beaver was 15-25 from the free throw line which was 60.0% and shot 27.0% from the field. he team pulled down 41 rebounds, had 5 assists, 10 steals, and 7 steals.
Penn State Beaver Men's Basketball is now 1-4 overall to begin the season. Beaver will now have a 6 day break before they are set to take on their first set of PSUAC competitors. The Men's Basketball team will be back in action on Friday, November 22nd when they take on Penn State Mont Alto at 8pm in the Beaver Fieldhouse..
