Road Trip Does Not Favor Beaver in Non-Conference Match-Up
Men's Basketball loses to Bethany College with a score of 95-87.
Bethany, WV - Hitting the road for the first time this year, Beaver Men's Basketball traveled down to Bethany, WV to take on the Bethany College Bison. Battling the whole game, Beaver was unable to secure a win with a final score of 87-95 in favor of Bethany. Third-year Trevor Franklin (Stafford. VA) scored the first poins for the Lions off of a jump shot less than 2 minutes into the game. This game was back and fourth for a long while in the first half with both teams tying it up at 6,8,10, before Bethany took a 9 point lead going up 23-14. Bethany found themselves with a comfortable lead with 3 mintes left in the half, when Beaver went on a scoring run. This run stared with Franklin getting Beaver over the 20 point mark and ended with Third-Year, Jalen Vaughn (Beaver Falls, PA) who brought the total up to 36 for a 13 point run. Second-year, Xavier Ryan (Philadelphia, PA) helped get Beaver started in the second half with two layups back-to-back, and after a scoreless 3 minutes for Beaver, First-year, Ronyell Coston (Eastern Shore, VA) made a jump shot. With a little more than 8 minutes left in the half Beaver was down by 24 points, but soon made an amazing run finishing the game down only 8. Third-year, Jalen Vaughn (Beaver Falls, PA) who made his free throw to end the game and bring Beaver to their 87 points.
First-year Ronyell Coston (Eastern Shore, VA) played a strong game scoring 19 points, having 1 assit and 1 steal. Third-Year, Trevor Franklin (Stafford, VA) had a fantastic game both offensively and defensively soring 14 points, having 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Along with that Third-year Jalen Vaughn (Beaver Falls, PA) scored 13 points, had 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. Fourth-year Matt Brown (Upland, CA) played tough with 7 points, and 6 rebounds. First-year, Dhamir Morfe-Chess (Teaneck, NJ) scored 9 points had 1 rebound, and 1 steal. Second-Year player Alex Green (Chicago, IL) scored 8 points, and had 3 rebounds, 1 assists, and 3 steals, while Second-year, Jermaine Knaff (Quincy, IL) had 5 points, and 1 rebound, and 4 steals for the Lions. Beaver was 29-37 from the free throw line which was 78.4% and shot 40.0% from the field while are both improvements from their last game.
Penn State Beaver Men's Basketball is now 1-3 overall to begin the season. The team will face another non-conference opponent before they take on their first set of PSUAC competitors. The Men's Basketball team will hit the road again on Saturday, November 16th to take on Fransciscan University at 4pm.
