Tough Battle Ends in Loss for Beaver 78-59
Beaver Men's Basketball Battled Apprentice in a tough USCAA Match-up.
Monaca, PA - Beaver took on a tough competitor today taking on USCAA Division 1 competition Apprentice University. Even though the final score landed in favor of Apprentice the Men's team battled and finished the game with a final score of 78-59. This game was scoreless through the first minute and a half of the game when Apprentice took the lead with the first points of the game. Second-year Xavier Ryan (Philadelphia, PA) scoring the first point for the Lions off of a free throw which was followed up by Second-year, Alex Green (Chicago, IL) who made a layup making it a 5-3 game. Apprentice held a fair lead for the majority of the first half but Beaver was able to cut it down with a strong offensive push made by the whole team. First-year, Ronyell Coston (Eastern Shore, VA) helped get Beaver with the final push at the end of the first hald scoring 2 off a layup and finishing out the half was Third-year, Jalen Vaughn (Beaver Falls, PA) who made his free throw right before halftime. Coming out of halftime, Beaver was the first to score; Coston made his jumpshot for 2 points, and again made a layup just seconds later cutting down Apprentice's lead even more. Second-year, Jermaine Knaff (Quinc, IL) scored 3, bringing the score within 5 points the smallest margin since the first 5 minutes of the game. Green, Coston, and Fourth-year, Trevor Franklin (Stafford, VA) all scored getting them past the 40 point mark. Third-year, Jaylin Houlder (Bronx, NY) scored the final points of the game off of 2 free throws finalizing the game.
First-year Ronyell Coston (Eastern Shore, VA) played a strong game scoring 13 points, having 2 assits and 1 steal. Along with that Second-year Jermaine Knaff (Quincy, IL) scored 12 points, had 3 rebounds, and 1 steal. Fourth-year Matt Brown (Upland, CA) played tough with 4 points, an impresive 10 rebounds, had 2 assists, and 2 blocks. Both Second-Year player Alex Green (Chicago, IL) and Fourth-year, Trevor Franklin (Stafford, VA) had 7 points, and 2 rebounds for the Lions. Beaver was 16-22 from the free throw line which was 72.7% and shot 35.8% from the field.
Penn State Beaver Men's Basketball is now 1-2 overall to begin the season. Beaver will face two more non-conference opponents before they take on their first set of PSUAC competitors. The Men's Basketball team will hit the road on Wednesday November 13th to take on Bethany College at 7pm.
