Beaver Makes Comeback Against Scranton
Monaca, PA -- Beaver Makes Comeback Against Scranton
By: Chris Rotondo
Beaver's men's basketball team returned to the court Friday, taking on Penn State Worthington Scranton in an impressive comeback. After trailing for most of the first half, Beaver came back to win 73-49.
As the first half started, Scranton gained an early lead, as Beaver struggled to make early shots. Freshman Andrew Brady helped to give the team some early points, despite Scranton controlling the ball in the half. Beaver was down by 9 almost halfway through the half when their luck slowly began to change. Junior Will Pierce made a layup that brought the team out of its funk. Pierce would go on to make his 5th double double this season in this game.
A 3-point shot made by senior Eric Gallupe brought the team closer to a tie, and following 3 free throws from sophomore Tavarski Wardlow, the team was closer than ever. The team was down just 1 point after a layup from Pierce, and after a jump shot from sophomore Dom Stevenson, the team was suddenly ahead. The team finished the half building their comeback, leading 32-25 at the half.
With a sudden 7 point lead, Beaver started the second half with an adreneline push. They worked to successfully build their lead even further, as Gallupe continued to lead the team in successful 3-pointers. Senior DJ Austin made a 3-pointer that suddenly gave the team a 12 point lead. As the game went into its final minutes, tensions were rising as Scranton felt defeated. Nevertheless, Beaver continued to build their lead. This was thanks in part to Gallupe's continued 3-pointers; he would make eight 3-pointers in the game. Beaver went on to defeat Scranton 73-49 in a massive turnaround from the start of the game.
The team is now 8-15 in their overall season and 5-9 in their conference matchups. They will return to their home court tomorrow afternoon to take on Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
