The Beaver men's basketball team traveled to Penn State Greater Allegheny Monday night for a conference matchup. Despite a strong first half, Beaver lost 70-67 after struggling in the second half.
As the first half began, both teams were hungry for an early lead. Greater Allegheny earned the first points of the night, but Beaver quickly struck back, as freshman Andrew Brady earned the team their first 4 points. This put them ahead before Greater Allegheny came back with a jump shot. Soon after, Beaver made three 3-pointers in a row, from seniors Eric Gallupe and DJ Austin. This suddenly pushed Beaver ahead by 5 points, a lead that grew by as much as 14 points. With five minutes left in the half, Greater Allegheny suddenly came back following a sudden rebound. Suddenly, Beaver found themselves trailing 34-29 at the half.
Beaver struggled to come back through most of the second half. They briefly pushed themselves ahead by 1 point thanks to a 3-pointer from sophomore Dominique Stevenson, and shortly after tied the game with a jump shot from Brady. After this, Greater Allegheny continued to push ahead, as Beaver began to look frustrated. Despite the setback, the team managed to look ahead, hoping to tie the game up again.
In the final few minutes, Beaver began to gain traction again, as the team worked together to keep the ball in their possession. Beaver came close to tieing the game, but the clock did not work in their favor, as they lost 70-67.
The team is now 7-15 in their overall season and 4-9 in their PSUAC conference matches. They will return home Wednesday night to take on Penn State New Kensington.
