Beaver's men's team pulled an incredible last second win against Penn State Du Bois Tuesday night. The team trailed until the final moments when the team earned a 60-59 win thanks to a pair of free throws.
From the first half, it was evident that this would be a competitive match. Du Bois earned the first points of the game with a layup, which was quickly followed by a 3-point jump shot from Stevenson. After that, the game went in Du Bois' favor, as they outshot Beaver on both field goals and 3-point goals. Beaver had some great moments, including a 3-pointer from senior Eric Gallupe. Near the end of the half, with Beaver trailing by 10, sophomore Kevin Louis-Charles scored a 3-pointer, bringing the team closer to their opponent. A last second layup from Stevenson put Beaver 5 points away from a tie at the half.
By the start of the second half, Beaver was trailing 32-27. The team upped their game in this half, working to move past Du Bois on the scoreboard. A layup from Gallupe put the team 2 points away from a tie, though Du Bois quickly came back with a 3-pointer. About a minute later, freshman Andrew Brady made a layup, tieing the game at 41. From here, the game went back and forth between both teams, each working to keep the ball from the other.
With 10 minutes left in the game, both teams were tied at 46. Suddenly, Gallupe made a 3-pointer, pushing the team ahead. Du Bois, seeming frustrated, tried to change this. It took them a few minutes and a couple of timeouts before they tied the game up again. Almost 30 seconds later, Stevenson made a 3-pointer, pushing Beaver in the lead again. Du Bois tied the game again with only a minute to go, and pushed ahead by 2 with 30 seconds left. Feeling the intense pressure, Gallupe made a free throw after a rebound, putting the game 1 point away from a tie. After Du Bois missed a free throw, junior Will Pierce made an incredible rebound. With 2 seconds left on the clock, Stevenson successfully made a pair of free throws, giving Beaver an incredible 60-59 win.
The team is now 7-13 in their overall season and 4-7 in their conference matches. They will travel to Penn State Fayette Saturday afternoon for another PSUAC conference match.
