By: Chris Rotondo
The Beaver men's basketball team continued their weekend of conference games Saturday afternoon as they took on Penn State Lehigh Valley. The PSUAC conference matchup ultimately proved to be a challenge for Beaver, as they fell 74-62.
As the first half began, Beaver stepped onto the court with full determination. They outscored their opponent in field goals and 3-pointers in the first half. Sophomore Dominique Stevenson led the team in field goals and 3-pointers. Senior Eric Gallupe also helped to move the team up throughout the game. Beaver used their defensive skills to try to stay ahead, which worked for much of the half. Lehigh Valley benefitted from their free throws, ultimately helping to push them ahead by 1 at the end of the first.
With Lehigh Valley leading 30-29 at the start of the second, the game was still very much up in the air. But it was Lehigh Valley who came back in the second half, drastically pushing ahead of Beaver on field goals and 3-pointers. Beaver earned more free throws during the second half, led by senior DJ Austin, but their opponent also fared well in that field. Beaver began to drift away from their opponent on the scoreboard, as Lehigh Valley pushed ahead. Beaver still kept up hope, as they tried to narrow their opponent's lead. The game did not end in Beaver's favor, as they fell 74-62.
The team is now 4-12 in their season and 1-6 in their conference matches. They will travel to Penn State New Kensington on Tuesday for another conference matchup.
