Penn State Beaver's men's basketball team faced off against Penn State Fayette in a close PSUAC conference matchup.
From the beginning, the two teams showed an intense spirit on the court, as both teams gained possession of the ball. Sophomore John Foster put Beaver on the scoreboard with a 3-point jump shot, followed by a layup from freshman Andrew Brady. Beaver had an early lead against their opponent, but Fayette would soon tie the game multiple times within the next minute. Sophomore Dominique Stevenson broke a 15 point tie with a free throw, but Fayette soon came back with a 3-pointer, giving them a 2 point lead. Fayette managed to grow their lead throughout the rest of the half. In the last second, Stevenson missed an attempted 3-point jump shot, but senior Eric Gallupe was on the offensive rebound with an impressive layup, which was scored right at the buzzer.
As the second half started, Beaver was down 39-32, but they were determined to come back. Stevenson and Brady helped to move the team higher up on the scoreboard, but Fayette wasn't giving up. The team suddenly gained momentum, gaining possession of the ball. Senior DJ Austin made a 3-pointer that brought the team up, while sophomore Tavarski Wardlow made an impressive steal and layup, bringing the team 1 point away from a tie. With a 3-pointer from Gallupe, Beaver was suddenly ahead of their opponent. They tried to build a wide lead, but Fayette came back, building a close lead of their own. In the last minutes of the game, Fayette's lead continued to grow, as they defeated Beaver 74-65.
Beaver is now 2-8 overall this season and 1-4 in the PSUAC conference. They will head on the road next weekend as they start the 2-game Beaver Holiday Tournament, facing off at Villa Maria on Friday, December 15.
