Men's Basketball Falters at Westminster
Beaver - 61, Westminster - 99
New Wilmington, PA -- Beaver goes 0-2 on the weekend at the Westminster Tournament.
In day two of action, Beaver faced the host, Westminster. Beaver fell behind by seven to open the game before Dominique Stevenson put them on the board with a three-pointer. Just a few plays later, the Lions made a four point run to bring the game within one point (10-9). However, the Titans responded with a 6-point run of their own. At the 11:42 mark, Stevenson again hit a big three to bring Beaver within three points of the tie (19-16), but that's as close as they would get in the first half. To close the final ten minutes in the first half, Westminster slowly built their lead to nearly 20, taking a 16 point into the locker room at the half, 46-30.
In the second half, the Lions struggled to generate offense and played from behind the entire half. Despite their best efforts, they could not overcome the first half deficit and fell by a final score of 99-61 to drop to 1-3 on the season.
As a team they shot only 31.5% from the floor led by senior, Eric Gallupe who put up 16 points and 7 rebounds coming off of the bench. He was followed by Stevenson who scored in the double figures as well with 11 on the evening. Also earning some accolades for his performance this weekend was John Foster who was named to the Buzz Ridl Tournament Team for tallying 24 points and 6 rebounds in two games.
The Lions get a one week break over the holiday before returning to action on Sunday, November 26th when they travel to St. Vincent College.
