Beaver Advances to PSUAC Championship
Beaver wins 87-78
Monaca, PA--- Penn State Beaver hosted Penn State Mont Alto in a semi-final game this evening looking to advance to the PSUAC Championship on Tuesday at the Jordan Bryce Center.
Coming into this game both teams knew it was going to be a good game. This first time both teams met Beaver won by a last second 3 pointer. Mont Alto came in with the taste of revenge.
In the first five minutes Beaver jumped out to a 7-0 run. Beaver continued to keep up the pressure throughout the first half. With two minutes left in the first half Mont Alto took the lead 28-27. Tiere Phillips (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills) gained the lead back for Beaver 29-28 assisted by Marcus Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry). Beaver was on top at halftime 38-30.
Beaver went up by 10 with a 3 pointer from Eric Gallupe (Sewickley, PA/Avonworth). That didn't stop Mont Alto kept to keep scoring to put pressure on Beaver. Mont Alto would fight back but still wasn't enough to get the lead over Beaver. Beaver forced Mont Alto to 8 turnovers in the second half alone. Beaver would close the game out with free throws and patient offense. Beaver went on to win 87-78.
Beaver was led in scoring by Lamont Wright (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills) with 22, Phillips and Gallupe had 15, Smith and Chris Best (Brooklynn, NY/Bishop Ford) added 12 points.
Beaver had five players in double digits. Phillips had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Gallupe shot an impressive 5-6 from behind the arc tonight.
Beaver will advance to the PSUAC Championship. Beaver will face Penn State York on Tuesday at the Jordan Bryce Center at 6 p.m.
