Monaca, PA—Penn State Beaver Ends the regular season off right clinching the second seed in the PSUAC.
The Penn State Beaver Lions faced off against Greater Allegheny Friday night on Beaver's annual senior night. Beaver cruised to victory with a final score of 100-84 ultimately clinching the second seed in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.
The game started off close, Greater Alleghany came out strong scoring with a three point shot on the first possession. Beaver began to gain steady momentum as they applied their signature pressure defense, but still only led 40-38 going into halftime.
Beaver exploded out of the gate in the second half, pushing their lead to 24 points by the 4:16 mark. It was clear that the mindset of Beaver changed dramatically, as they came out of the locker room with a burst of energy not seen in the first half.
Beaver was led by the strong play of junior Lamont Wright (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills) who finished with 24 points scoring 19 of his 24 in the second half. Beaver also got contributions from Senior Tiere Phillips (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills) who scored 13 points, junior Tyler Burkart (Morgantown, WV/Kiski Prep) with 14, and Freshman Eric Gallupe (Sewickley, PA/Avonworth) who recorded 10 points of his own.
Beaver will now prepare for upcoming games as they host the second round of the PSUAC playoffs at home next week.
