Beaver earns convincing win over Brandywine

Beaver cruises to a 98-77 win over Penn State Brandywine.
The first eight minutes of the first half saw back and forth action between Beaver and Brandywine as neither team let the other take more than a two point lead. With the game tied at 15, Willie James (Pittsburgh, PA / Westinghouse) hit a jumper igniting the offense and sparking a 9-0 run over the next 3 minutes including a 3-pointer from Christian Perkins (Pittsburgh, PA / Perry) who just joined the team at the semester break. Also taking part in the run were Lamont Wright (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills) and Marcus Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry) who both had jumpers of their own. Beaver would then maintain a comfortable lead for the remainder of the half, going into the break up 14 (44-30).
In the second half, Brandywine battled to get the game within 8 points at the 10:01 mark, but a 3-point shot from DJ Austin (East Liverpool, OH / East Liverpool) would put Beaver back into their double digit lead. Over the next eight minutes, Beaver would have six players contribute to a barrage of jump shots including Tiere Phillips (Pittsburgh, PA / Penn Hills), Christian James (Frederick, MD / Frederick), Willie James, Eric Gallupe (Sewickley, Pa / Avonworth), Eric McGee (Tampa, FL / Seffner Christian) and Chris Perkins who accounted for 25 points in that stretch alone. This run was capped off by a Willie James dunk with just six second to play, sealing the 98-77 victory.
Leading in scoring on the night for Beaver was Willie James with 16 points, followed by Smith with 15. Beaver shot 46% from the floor, hitting an impressive 80% from the free throw line.
Beaver now sits at 5-4 in the PSUAC and will return to action on Sunday, January 25th at 4:00 p.m. when they play host to Penn State Schuylkill.
