Beaver falls to Thiel College at the Westminster Tournament, 82-74
New Wilmington, PA -- Lions drop to 0-2 after facing Thiel College in day one of the Westminster Tournament.
To open the first half, Beaver went shot for shot with Thiel as the lead changed hands several times in the opening minutes. At 14:29 Thiel would take a three point lead and maintain the lead until 8:18 when a lay up by Marcus Smith would give Beaver the lead again at 23-22. For the remaining eight minutes, Beaver would work to increase that lead to 10 at the half (45-35).
With the momentum seemingly back in their favor, Beaver increased their lead to 15 (52-37) on a Willie James (Pittsburgh, PA / Westinghouse) jump shot, but Thiel answered Beaver's offensive burst with a run of their own. Thiel, over the next five minutes, would put together a 15 point run of their own to tie the game at 52 with just over 10 minutes to play. After gaining the lead on a Beaver turnover, Thiel would never look back and go on to win the game, 82-74.
Leading the offense for Beaver was Lamont Wright (Pittsburgh, PA / Penn Hills) who had 23 points. He was followed by Marcus Smith (Pittsburgh, PA / Perry) who had 17 and Christian James (Frederick, MD / Frederick) who added 15.
The Lions will return to action tomorrow, in day two of the Westminster Tournament, as they face the host, Westminster at 4:00 p.m.
