Beaver downs Geneva 88-81
Lions win third straight over Golden Tornadoes
Monaca, PA---- Penn State Beaver hosted Geneva College on Tuesday night for another edition of the cross county rivalry as the Lions dropped the Golden Tornados by a score of 88-81. It seems to always be an entertaining contest when these two meet and tonight was no different. Beaver opened up the game on a 15-2 run until Geneva answered with a 13-5 run of their own and the halftime score was 48-35 Beaver. Beaver led throughout the entire contest even though Geneva continued to play well in the second half as they cut the Beaver lead to just 1 with 3 minutes left on the clock. It was clutch free throw shooting down the stretch as Beaver held on to claim the victory. The difference in the game was the Beaver defense, which was tenacious throughout the contest, forcing 28 Geneva turnovers to just 9 for Beaver.
Beaver got an impressive performance from Rob Agurs (Pittsburgh, Penn Hills) who led the Lions with 29 points while also adding 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Nick Miller (Beaver Falls, Beaver Falls) added 23 points and 3 assists and Patrick Horton (Farrell, Farrell) added 11 including 3 first half threes that helped give Beaver the half time advantage. Lamont Wright (Penn Hills, Penn Hills) chipped in 10 points to go along with 7 rebounds as Beaver finished with four players in double figures in the fast paced contest.
Geneva got 35 points from senior Matt Lorello but that proved to not be enough as Beaver claimed their third staight victory over their cross town rival. Beaver will play again on Saturday as they travel to Edinboro University to play at 3pm.
