McKeesport, PA- The Men's Basketball team of Penn State Beaver (10-4, 7-1 PSUAC) went on the road tonight against PSUAC rival Penn State Greater Allegheny (McKeesport, PA). Senior Darius Prince (West Mifflin/Pittsburgh, PA) returned to his former team and court of three years, but this time in a Beaver jersey.
Tyler Care (Lincoln Park/Hopewell, PA) started the game with a three pointer as Beaver took an early 9-0 lead. A Patrick Horton (Farrell/Farrell, PA) layup expanded Beaver's lead to 17 (26-9) with 11:14 left in the game. The first half pretty much stayed the same, and multiple fouls on both teams sent both sides to the foul line for a combined 28 times. Beaver went into the half ahead 53-34.
In the second half, Beaver led by as much as 21 multiple times but Greater Allegheny soon fought back going on a 19-10 run bringing the game to within 11 (81-70) with 3:58 left in the game. Despite outscoring Beaver 43-34, Greater Allegheny couldn't get over the 10 point deficit as Beaver went on to win the game 87-77.
For the night, Chris Weathers (New Brighton/New Brighton, PA) led the team with 23 points, followed by Nick Miller (Beaver Falls/Beaver Falls, PA) with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Care added 14 points, and Prince with 12 of his own. Beaver shot 39.6% from the field and 36.8% from three point range.
When asked what it felt like to return to Greater Allegheny, Prince commented "To be honest I felt like LeBron going back to Cleveland. I knew some people back there liked me and I knew some people hated me because of me leaving. I left for school reasons because Greater Allegheny doesn't have my major. But it felt good to return back there and play infront of a lot of old classmates and friends.. I had butterflies in my stomach leading up to the game. But it felt good to return and to get the win. They played a great game."
Beaver will hit the road for their next game on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 8pm against Penn State Brandywine (Media, PA).
