Monaca, PA- Penn State Beaver's Men's Basketball Team (10-4, 6-1 PSUAC) played their second home game this weekend against Penn State Lehigh Valley (Center Valley, PA).
The game started out with two three pointers from Tyler Care (Lincoln Park/Hopewell, PA) giving Beaver an early 6-0 lead. Lehigh Valley soon struck back going on a run of their own taking the lead 8-10. Freshman Patrick Horton (Farrell/Farrell, PA) kept the men close, tying the game at 14. Beaver found themselves down again by six, but soon regained their momentum from a Tony Houghton (Perry/Pittsburgh, PA) and a layup by Nick Miller (Beaver Falls/Beaver Falls, PA) giving the men a one point lead again. A very back and forth first half continued as Lehigh soon again had a lead by as much as two; but Travis Anderson (Ambridge/Ambridge, PA) shot a key three pointer to shift the momentum to Beaver's side once again. The game was tied at 45 going into halftime.
Lehigh started the first half on top again going on a 4-0 run to open it up. This would soon change however as Beaver's defense became too much for Lehigh. The game was only tied once at 54, but Beaver soon took off and increased their lead as time went on. The men of Beaver outscored Lehigh Valley 53-38 in the second half going on to win for the afternoon 98-83.
For the day, Beaver shot 52.9% from the field and 37.5% from three point range. Beaver also had six people in double digits. Houghton and Miller led the team with 15 points, followed by Horton and Chris Weathers (New Brighton/New Brighton, PA) with 14, and Care and Julian Taylor (Rochester/Rochester, PA) with 12. Horton also had 12 rebounds for the day.
Beaver's next game will be Wednesday, January 18, 2012 on the road against PSUAC rival Penn State Greater Allegheny (McKeesport, PA) at 8pm.
