Lions Win Opener, Down Penn Highlands 95-80
Johnstown, PA- The Penn State Beaver Men's Basketball Team started the season out right, defeating Penn Highlands 95-80.
In the win, Sophomore Chris Weathers (New Brighton/New Brighton, PA) led all scorers with 23 points. Five other Lions scored in double digits. Senior Darius Prince (West Mifflin/Pittsburgh, PA) added 19, Freshman Rob Agurs (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh, PA) scored 13, Senior Tyler Care (Lincoln Park/Hopewell, PA) and Junior Nick Miller (Beaver Falls/Beaver Falls, PA) each chipped in 12, and Freshman Patrick Horton (Farrell/Farrell, PA) scored 10 in his collegiate debut.
Penn Highlands built a 19-15 lead by the ten minute mark in the first half. Beaver finished the half on a 30-19 run to go into half time leading 45-38. The Lions turned up the intensity in the second half, building a 25 point lead at one point. Penn Highlands put a run together of their own, but never got within 10. Beaver won the second half 50-42.
The Lions open the season 1-0 (0-0 in PSUAC play). Beaver returns to action on Wednesday, November 16th, when they travel to La Roche College (Coach William's alma mater) for a 7PM exhibition.
