Beaver Defeats Fayette, Holds First Place in PSUAC

Monaca, PA - The Penn State Beaver men's basketball team improved its PSUAC record to 11-1 with a 94-68 win over Penn State Fayette. Beaver is in first place in the PSUAC.
Beaver jumped to an 18-5 lead after 10 minutes of play. Freshman Chris Weathers (New Brighton High School/New Brighton, PA) capped the run with a steal, dunk, steal, and then a three, all within a 45-second span.
Beaver pushed the lead to 28-9 on a steal and lay-up by freshman Markes Royster (Penn Hills High School/Pittsburgh, PA), and Fayette reponded with a 12-2 run of their own. Fayette continued to chip away at the lead, pulling within 6 points of Beaver before Beaver sophomore Nick Miller (Beaver Falls High School/Beaver Falls, PA) drained a 3/4 court shot. At halftime, Beaver led, 38-29.
Beaver opened the second half with a devastating 21-3 run, then held the lead for the remainder of the game. Senior David McGarry (Poland Seminary High School/Poland, OH) recorded a double-double, leading all scorers with 24 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Weathers had 13 points.
Beaver remains in first place in the PSUAC. The Lions will return to action at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 7 when they take on Geneva College. On Wednesday, Feb. 9, Beaver will host PSUAC rival Penn State New Kensington at 8:00 p.m.
