Uniontown, PA - The Penn State Beaver men's basketball team fell 61-51 to #5 seed Andrews University in the USCAA Semifinals. Beaver was taking the court just 12 hours after knocking of #1 seed Vermont Tech the night before, and the Lions' fatigue seemed to show.
Andrews came out of the gate hitting their first seven attempts, and Beaver started out flat. Andrews led by as many as 15 points late in the first half before Beaver hit back-to-back buckets to trail 34-23. Beaver played a much better second half, chipping away at the lead and pulling within 2 at the five-minute mark but unable to get closer. Andrews hit its free throws to take the game, 61-51.
Beaver sophomore guard Nick Miller (Beaver Falls High School/Beaver Falls, PA) led the Lions with 16 points. Senior David McGarry (Poland Seminary/Poland, OH) and sophomore Rich Gaston (Shenango High School/New Castle, PA) each added 11, and McGarry grabbed 8 rebounds.
Beaver is now 19-11 on the year and will take on NHTI at 9:45 a.m., Saturday, March 5, for the third place trophy in the USCAA National Tournament.
