Lions Defeat Penn State Worthington-Scranton

The Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions traveled across state on Friday, Dec. 5, for a PSUAC game against the Nittany Lions of Worthington-Scranton. In the first half Beaver would start off strong as they ran on Scranton and took a 14-6 lead fourteen minutes into the game. As the half continued on, freshman Tony Houghton (Pittsburgh, PA) played with intensity as he would score an impressive and 1 to push Beaver to a 35-25 lead. Freshman Matt Shearer (Slippery Rock, PA) would contribute to Beaver's lead when he hit a jumpsot from the elbow to push Beaver's lead to 42-28. The Lions would go in at half time leading Scranton with a score of 45-35.
Beaver would start the 2nd half off strong when they pulled in a defensive rebound, as senior Matt Franetti (Blackhawk, PA) assisted junior Zach Fetchin (Hopewell, PA) to score the half's first ponts. Fetchin (Hopewell, PA) would score an impressive jumper with 17:30 left in the 2nd half to push Beaver's lead to 51-38. In the half's last 5 minutes, freshman Andrew Poindexter (Wilkinsburg, PA) would contribute a strong post game and help Beaver along with the win. Beaver would defeat Scranton with a final score of 96-74.
In the victory over Scranton, Houghton(Pittsburgh, PA)led the team with 22 points and 8 assists. Poindexter (Wilkinsburg, PA) led with 7 total rebounds. Beaver now holds an overall record of 2-3 and a conference record of 1-1. Beaver will look to continue their conference games when they travel to Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, Dec. 6. Game time is set to start at 3p.m.
