Beaver Blows-out Brandywine

The Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions hosted the Nittany Lions of Brandywine on Friday, January 23rd in a PSUAC game. Beaver advanced their conference record to 8-1 and continued their 8 game conference winning streak by defeating Penn State Brandywine with a score of 79-47.
The first half Beaver jumped ahead of Brandywine from the tip-off shooting 50% from the field and holding Brandywine on the defensive end to 24 points. Solid post play by David McGarry (Poland Seminary HS/Poland, OH) and Matt Sherer (Slippery Rock HS/Slippery Rock PA) kept Beaver with a nine point halftime lead, 33-24. Early in the 2nd half, Beaver gained control with a 12-0 offensive run against Brandywine. At the two-minute mark Beaver led Brandywine 75-46 as freshman AJ Poindexter (Wilkinsburg HS/Pittsburgh, PA) sealed the game with a two-foot jumper with less than a minute left in the game.
Freshman Tony Houghton (Perry Traditional HS/Pittsburgh, PA) led Beaver with 15 points a sophomore's Zach Fetchin (Hopewell HS/Aliquippa, PA) followed with 14 points and McGarry ended the game with 12 points. Brandywine's Saylee Nagbae led with 20 points and 5 rebounds.
The Lions (12-4) look to continue their conference winning streak when they host the Lions of Penn State Mont Alto on Saturday, January 24, 2009. Tip-off is set for 3p.m.
