By: Alonna Verrico
On Saturday, February 14th, the Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions traveled to Penn State Greater Allegheny for their last PSUAC regular season game. Beaver advanced their conference record to 15-2 and clinched the number one spot in the PSUAC after defeating Greater Allegheny 88-75.
In the first half, the game proved to be in Beaver's control when they went on a 12-0 run against the Lions of Greater Allegheny. Junior Tim Kubis (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) hit back to back three-point jumpers to advance Beaver's lead. However Greater Allegheny tried to cut Beaver's lead going in at the half trailing 46-31.
Starting off in the 2nd half Beaver sparked an offensive run against Greater Allegheny after senior Matt Franitti (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) placed back to back lay-ups in for the Lions. As Greater Allegheny attempted to spark an offensive run of their own Beaver would shut them down and take the win by a final of 88-75.
Beaver will now host the PSUAC elite 8 playoff game on Friday, February 20th. Tip-off is set for 8p.m. Be sure to join in supporting your Beaver Nittany Lions when a pre-game tailgating party will be held in the gymnasium lobby/parking lot before the Lady Lions play. The Lions will play two playoff warm-up games this week, traveling to Geneva College on Monday, and hosting Pitt-Titusville on Wednesday.
