The Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions ended their regular season with an overall record of 19-6 on Wednesday, February 18th after defeating the Panthers of Pitt-Titusville.
The first half proved to be in Beaver's favor taking the lead on the Panther's, with strong offensive post moves made by junior Zach Fetchin (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) and sophomore David McGarry (Poland, OH/Walsh University). Pitt-Titusville looked to cut away at Beaver's lead, but lost all hope when freshman Tony Houghton (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry Traditional Academy) sparked an offensive run for the Lions. Leading them into the half with a score of 33-23.
The 2nd half Pitt-Titusville scrambled to put a stop to Beaver's strong offense but was unable to tame the Lions when senior Matt Franitti (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) drove in strong to put Beaver up. The Lion's ended the game with a final score of 77-60 and their regular season with a record of 19-6. Beaver's Fetchin finished the game with a double-double putting up 22 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. Franitti ended in double figures with 14 points and 2 blocks as Houghton finished with 12 points and 2 assists.
Beaver will play its last home game on Friday, February 20th when they host Penn State Abington in the PSUAC elite 8 play-off game. Tip-off is set for 7p.m. Be sure to join your Beaver Nittany Lions before the game for a pre-game tailgating party held in the lobby/gymnasium parking lot.
