Beaver's PSUAC Streak ended; Penn State York Defeats Beaver
By: Alonna Verrico
The Penn State-Beaver Nittany Lions hosted the Nittany Lions of Penn State-York on Saturday, January 31st in a matchup of PSUAC division leaders.
In the first half, Beaver and York traded buckets throughout, as York trailed Beaver by 6 points at the half (38-32).
In the 2nd half, however, momentum turned in York's favor when they gained the lead from Beaver and would never relinquish it. Beaver continued to try to grab the lead and a key 3-point jumper by junior Tim Kubis (Hopewell HS/Aliquippa, PA) bought Beaver within 1 point with just over 4 minutes left in the game. However, York converted critical free throws down the stretch and sealed the win with an empathic dunk by George Mensah (Woodbridge HS/Woodbridge VA). York won by a final score of 74-61.
Beaver's freshman Tony Houghton (Perry Traditional Academy HS/Pittsburgh, PA) led with the team with 11 points. Following Houghton were junior's Zach Fetchin (Hopewell HS/Alquippa, PA) and Kubis ending the game each with 10 points a piece.
Things do not get an easier for the Lion's (14-5) look to redeem themselves against division rival Penn State-DuBois on Monday, February 2nd, at Beaver Gymnasium. In their earlier matchup, Dubois nipped Beaver, 103-91.
Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
