The Penn State Beaver Lions arrived at the USCAA tournament on Tuesday afternoon and has been patiently waiting for a day and a half to take the court. Finally, the Lion's took on #7 seed, the Mustangs of Central Maine Community College.
Central Maine struck first, building an early lead. Beaver ignited their offensive run when sophomore Chancelor Humphrey (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) finished at the rim on a and-one play. The Lions jumped to a 16 point lead at the five minute mark, but the Mustangs cut the lead going in at the half still trailing the Lions by 13.
The Mustangs cut the lead to eight in the 2nd half but that was the closest they would come to Beaver. Sophomore David McGarry (Poland, OH/Welsh) would prevent the Mustangs from any second chance shots bounding on the defensive boards. At the other end McGarry would add to Beaver's lead, pulling down the offensive rebounds and placing them back up. Beaver would seal the game on back to back free throw makes by junior Zach Fetchin (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) and defeat Central Main by a final score of 85-76.
Junior Zac Fetchin (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) led the way with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
After defeating the Mustangs, Beaver will now advance to the USCAA final four. The Lions will next take on University of Cinncinatti Clermont at 10 p.m. The game will be played in Uniontown, PA on the beautiful campus of Penn State Fayette.
