Lions win, move to 6-1 in PSUAC

On Friday, Jan. 16 the Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions basketball team headed east to defeat Penn State Hazleton, 79-76, and are now 6-1 in the PSUAC.
Hazleton led Beaver throughout most of the first half, but Beaver cut the lead when Billy Stoughton (Slippery Rock High School, Slippery Rock, PA) scored back-to-back 3-point plays to bring Beaver within 3 points of their opponent. With two minutes left in the half, Hazleton produced an offensive run to increase their lead by 11. At halftime the score was 40-33.
In the second half, Beaver faced a tough time when Hazleton hit a 15-foot jumper as the shot clock hit 0, but Tim Kubis (Hopewell High School, Aliquippa, PA) changed the game's intensity with a defensive stop and a 3-point jump to bring Beaver within 5 points.
Beaver took the lead, 50-49, on a short field goal from Tony Houghton (Perry Traditional Academy, Pittsburgh, PA) as the lead went back and forth. In the last minutes of the game, Zach Fetchin (Hopewell High School, Aliquippa, PA) sealed Beaver's victory by sinking four free throws to take the game.
In the win, Stoughton had 22 points and Houghton followed with 20 points.
Beaver will travel to Penn State Abington for a conference game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17.
