Penn State Mont Alto
Penn State Mont Alto
The baseball team continued their PSUAC stretch of home-and-home matchups with Penn State Mont Alto on Saturday, April 8th. This was following road losses to Mont Alto on Friday, April 7, that both ended in 5th inning mercy rule finishes. Not much changed during the Saturday matchups as game one ended with another 5th inning mercy rule and game two with a 6th inning mercy rule finish.
Game one featured an offensive explosion from Mont Alto and defensive struggles from Beaver. Mont Alto jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they defeated Beaver by a score of 13-2. Freshman pitcher, Nicholas Campbell, (Lewes, DE) threw a lot of strikes but the defense recorded a total of 2 errors and numerous mishaps in the contest. Beaver also had bases loaded numerous times and failed to get runs across to keep pace with Mont Alto. Senior, Joseph Barile, (Las Vegas, NV) drove in both of Beavers' runs in a critical point of the contest followed by freshman Infielder Christopher Cann, (Selden, NY) recording 3 hits.
Game two started off as a much closer contest that featured stellar starting pitching performances from both Beaver and Mont Alto. Beaver Sophomore, Jericho Dela Cruz, (Auburn, WA), pitched 5.1 innings, had two RBI's and was able to keep Mont Alto from another offensive explosion. After he finished picthing, Mont Alto jumped out ahead agaisnt his relief in the 6th inning by increasing their lead from 5-2 to 13-2. Beaver battled in the bottom of the 6th inning, again having bases loaded but failed to get runs across to keep pace. Beaver's 6th inning implosion proved fatal as they dropped the second game with the same score as the first.
Beaver now has an overall record of 2-23 and a PSUAC record of 2-9. Their next appearance will be on Tuesday, April 11 at CCAC - Boyce at 3pm!
