Monaca, PA - The Baseball team here at Beaver has not had it easy thus far in their season. Starting out 0-12 overall going into conference play leaves room for doubt about the ability of the team and if they will win a game this season. Well today, Beaver out those doubts to rest after winning their first game of the season, and a conference game, in a double-header against Penn State Fayette.
The first game played went in favor of Fayette. The game started off slow with neither team scoring in the first two innings. This changed when Fayette scored 2 runs in the third inning. Beaver was able to respond with 1 run of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning after Fayette went runless in the top of the fourth. Fayette secured the win after scoring a total of 5 runs in the fifth and sixth innings, and keeping Beaver from scoring a single run. The win was secured here as the last two innings of the game went runless for both teams. Fayette secured the first win defeating Beaver 7-1.
Freshman Nicholas Campbell (Lewes, DE) scored the only run for Beaver this game after sophomore Aaron Stribling (Hainesport, NJ) got an RBI. Freshman Jordan Stremo (Niles, OH) was one of three pitchers for Beaver, facing 15 batters. Streamo finished the game pitching 5 strike outs.
The second game is when Beaver finally broke their losing streak. Beaver started off this game scoring the first run in the second inning. However, Fayette responded scroing 2 runs in the fourth inning. Beaver secured their first win after scoring 5 runs in the fifth inning, and only allowing Fayette 1 run in the sixth inning. Beaver sent Fayette acking securing a 6-3 win in the last game of the day.
The 6 runs scored in this game were split between sophomore Jericho Dela Cruz (Auburn, WA), freshman Nicholas Campbell, sophomore Tylik Rouse (Macon, GA), Aaron Stribling, sophomore Jacob Gresham (San Francisco, CA), and sophomore Robert Goettman (Beaver, PA). Each player listed scored 1 run. Gresham sealed player of the game for Beaver after having 2 RBIs, 1 run, and 1 stolen base between both games played. Rouse finished with 2 RBIs of his own in Beaver's win over Fayette.
Beaver will be taking on Penn State Fayette once again in a double header that starts tomorrow, Monday March 27, with the first game starting at 2pm and the last game at 4pm. Be sure to wish them luck as they continue conference play!
