Evan Pinchot - The Penn State Beaver baseball team squared off against the men from Penn State Mont Alto for the two teams last meeting of the season, as Beaver would once again get swept by Mont Alto in a doubleheader matchup.
Game one of the day was anything but good for Beaver, as they would end up losing this game in 5 innings. From the start, Mont Alto's bats were alive and well, stringing together 3 doubles in the top of the first alone to put them ahead early in this one. Despite a good day at the plate by Senior Justyn Francona (New Brighton, Pa / New Brighton High School), which included a 2-3 performance with a solo home run, there was no hope offensively for Beaver to take the lead back from Mont Alto. In the end 5 innings would be all that Mont Alto needed to get a 10 run lead on Beaver, as they would walk away winners in this game by a final score of 13-2.
Game two of Saturday's doubleheader didn't go much better for Beaver either, as Mont Alto would once again take an early first inning lead that Beaver would chase for the entirity of the game. However, Beaver's bats were able to keep them in this game until the end, as muti-hit performances from Justyn Francona, Freshman Brian Fessey (Fairless Hills, Pa Pennsbury High School) and Stefan Romaniuk (Alpha, Nj Notre Dame) would be enough for Beaver to put up 6 runs before this game was over. Even with their new found life at the plate, it would not be enough to stifle Mont Alto, as they would cruise to a 9-6 in this game, sweeping Beaver for the season.
After losing both games of Saturday's doubleheader, Beaver now stands at 3-17 overall with a 1-17 conference record. Beaver will now look to break their 10 game losing streak when they play host to Penn State Fayette on Tuesday, April 20, for another doubleheader. Game one is set to start at 2 pm, with game two to follow at 4 pm.
