Evan Pinchot - The Penn State Beaver baseball team traveled to Mont Alto this Friday afternoon, squaring off against Penn State Mont Alto in a doubleheader where Beaver would lose both games to extend their losing streak to 8 games
Overall, Beaver's road trip to Mont Alto did not go well for this struggling team, as neither their pitching or their offense seemed to be firing on all cylinders in either game. Game one was an offensive showing for a very good Mont Alto team, as they were able to tally 13 hits off of Beaver's pitching staff. Going up against such a strong showing at the plate, Beaver just couldn't match up, as they were never able to string together any hits in a meaningful way. With a 3-3 performance at the plate, including scoring Beaver's only 2 runs in this game, Sophomore Eric Kim (John's Creek, Ga / Chattahoochee) was Beaver's top performer at the plate in this losing effort, as game one would be Mont Alto's by a final score of 12-2 after 5 innings.
Game two was more of the same story for Beaver on the day, as they would just be outmatched from start to finish in this game as well. However, instead of Mont Alto's hits that would kill Beaver in this one, it would be the 8 walks surrendered by Beaver that would be their downfall in game two. While only being out-hit by 1 hit in game two, it would seem like Beaver beat themselves in this game, as they would not have an answer to answer to Mont Alto in game 2 game. When it was all said and done, Beaver would go home with another loss on their record, falling by a final score of 7-1 in this matchup.
After taking home losses in both games of this doubleheader, Beaver now holds a 3-13 overall record on the year, with a 1-13 record in conference play. Beaver will look to improve on their record by facing off against Penn State Mont Alto again this Saturday, April 17, at New Brighton High School. This meeting is scheduled as a doubleheader, with game one to start at 2 pm, with game two to follow at 4 pm.
