Evan Pinchot - The Penn State Beaver baseball team hosted the men of Penn State Du Bois on Saturday afternoon, losing both games of the scheduled doubleheader.
In game one of the day's doubleheader, it would be Du Bois that would be the first to strike. After a quiet first inning, DuBois would open the scoring with 2 runs in the second inning before follwing that up with another 5 runs in the third. For Beaver, their struggles in the field seemed to carry over to the plate in this game, as they would only tally 6 hits throughout the game, with their only 2 runs coming in the fourth inning. With their bats cold, and a handful of key errors in the field, Beaver never seemed t be in this game at any point, as they would eventually lose this game by a final score of 9-2.
In game two, things did not shape up in any aspect for Beaver. From the very first inning in this one Du Bois looked impressive at the plate, as they would tally 10 runs in the first 4 innings. On the other hand, Beaver's bats stayed quiet throughout this game, as they would only tally a total of 3 hits by the time this one would end. With an 11-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, this matchup would be called for a mercy rule, with Beaver losing the second game of the day's doubleheader.
Even with Beaver's struggles in the day's doubleheader, Sophomore Dom Petrella (Beaver, Pa / Beaver High School) put up the team's best performance of the day in game one, going 2-3 with 1 of Beaver's only 2 RBI's on the day. Beaver will look to get back on track and keep their hopes of a good season alive on Tuesday, April 13 as they will take to the road to face off against Penn State Greater Allegheny. This is scheduled as a doubleheader, and game one will start at 3 pm, with game two to follow at 5:30 pm.
