The Penn State Beaver Baseball team was dealt their second loss of the season Friday by Penn State Greater Allegheny. In what was their fourth straight road game, Beaver put up a good fight against a good Greater Allegheny team that would just out-hit Beaver in this one.
The game started off with an energized Beaver team taking a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. However, this lead would not stand for long, as Greater Alleghney would answer back in the bottom of the second inning, pushing across six runs of their own to take a 6-4 lead. As Beaver's bats would cool off after their big first inning, Greater Allegheny's would not, as they would tack on 12 more runs over the third, fourth, and fifth innings. While Beaver did not go quietly, adding on 4 more runs througout the rest of the game, it would not be enough to overcome Greater Allegheny's lead, as Beaver would fall by a final score of 18-8.
After their loss to Greater Allegheny, Beaver now sits with a 2-2 overall record and an 0-2 conference record. Even in their loss, Beaver still managed to show some life with the bat as the player of the game, Freshmen Sedale Nixon (Camden, Nj / Leap Academy), went 2-4 with 2 singles and 3 RBIs in the losing effort. Beaver will look to get on the right track after this loss, as they will play Greater Allegheny again in a double-header this Saturday, March 27, at New Brighton High School field. The first game of the double-header will start at 2 pm, followed by game 2 at 4 pm.
