In the first game of their season-opening series, Penn State Beaver Baseball took on Penn State York in what was a close game through the fist 5 innings. With opening day starter Senior Scott Hughes (Aliquippa, Pa / Central Valley) on the mound, Beaver went back and forth with Penn State York. After taking a one run lead in the first inning, York was able to take a 3-1 lead in the second. After 2 key hits in the third inning, Beaver was right back in it with a 3-1 lead that would end up losing in the fourth. With Sophomore Dom Petrella (Beaver, Pa / Beaver High School) on the mound, the Beaver Baseball team looked dominant from the start. After a 4 run lead in the second inning, Beaver kept piling on York, finishing the game with 11 run on 12 hits in only 5 innnings.
