Beaver traveled to Penn State New Kensington Sunday afternoon for the last of three games between the two PSUAC schools. After winning both games on Friday, Beaver came back with an 11-8 win against New Kensington.
In the opening inning, Ty Cole and Matt Capo both ran home as Scott Hughes singled to the shortstop with 2 RBIs. In the bottom of the first, New Kensington gained 3 runs, pushing ahead of Beaver 3-2. In the top of the second, Beaver tied the game as Mitchel Lazaretti ran home. New Kensington then gained 5 points in the bottom of the second, with Beaver trailing 8-3.
The third inning saw the team begin to reverse play, starting with a run from Hughes as Zack Cossette tripled with an RBI. The fourth inning showed Beaver gaining the lead, with the team making 5 runs. Capo doubled to left field with an RBI, while Cole singled with an RBI. Hughes reached first with 2 RBIs, with Cole and Capo each gaining a run in the play. The fourth inning pushed Beaver ahead 9-8.
The action in the game lulled until the top of the ninth, when Beaver gained 2 more runs. Capo and Justyn Francona each singled RBIs, with Eric Halicek and Stefan Romaniuk each gaining runs. Those final plays gave Beaver an 11-8 victory over New Kensington.
The team is now 4-7 in their season and 3-0 in conference matches. They will travel to Penn State Mont Alto Tuesday afternoon for a conference double header.
