Beaver Goes 0-2 with Ocean C.C.
Myrtle Beach, SC -- Beaver finishes the week 1-5, with a loss against Ocean County College in their final game.
After a 3-run top of the first for Ocean, Beaver responded with two runs of their own with a little luck and some help from Ocean C.C. defense. Stefan Romaiuk walked to start the inning and was followed by Matt Capo who reached on an error, advancing Romaniuk to third. With runners on second and third, a passed ball scored Romaniuk and advanced Capo to third. A Ty Cole walk put runners on the corners and a second passed ball scored Capo to bring Beaver within one run of tying the game (3-2). Unfortunatly, the Lions couldn't keep the streak alive as the next three batters all struck out, leaving one on.
Through the next four innings, Ocean County College would put up 8 additional runs on Beaver, creating an 11-2 deficit to overcome. In the bottom of the fifth, Beaver got a little two-out magic as Cole singled in his at bat and was followed by Justyn Francona who was walked. Scott Hughes then stepped to the plate and hit a clutch single to score Cole and advance Francona to second. A Zack Cossette walk loaded the bases and a single off of the bat of Shelton Hilliard scored Francona but resulted in Hughes being thrown out at the plate to end the inning.
Trailing by 9 headed into the bottom of the sixth (13-4), Beaver was able to put one more run on the board, but would give up two more runs in the seventh to fall behind 16-5, which would be the final score of the game as they were held to just two hits in the bottom of the inning.
The loss drops the Lions to 1-5 on the week. They will return to action on Tuesday, March 13th as they prepare for their home opener against Grove City College at 3:00 p.m. in a single 9-inning game.
