Beaver tops Brandywine in Spring Training Game

Vero Beach, FL -- Beaver takes down Brandywine in a spring non-conference match-up.
After a scoreless first inning, Beaver got on the board in the top of the second inning as Justyn Francona (New Brighton, PA / New Brighton) led off with a single. Jordan Price (Conway, PA / Freedom) was next to the plate, doubling down the left field line to advance Francona. With no outs and two runners in scoring position, a wild pitch from Brandywine led to Beaver's first run of the game.
In the top of the fourth Beaver added to their lead on a 2 RBI triple from Ryan Onderko (Johnstown, PA / Richland), scoring Price (hit by pitch) and Scott Hughes (Aliquippa, PA / Central Valley) (reached on an error), to give Beaver a 3-0 lead.
The conference rivals played tough defense in the following innngs until Beaver was able to get their bats going again in the top of the seventh. Onderko led things off with a single, followed by Ty Cole (Carmichaels, PA / Carmichaels) who also singled. A sacrifice bunt from Blaise McCarty (Beaver Falls, PA / Riverside) advanced the runners allowing both Jake Debo (New Brighton, PA / New Brighton) and Nick Casasanta (Moon Twp, PA / Moon) to earn an RBI as they singled in their at bats. With the 5-0 lead, Matt Capo (Moon Township, PA / Moon) sealed the game with a 2 RBI single up the middle. Beaver was able to hold Brandywine scoreless for the shut out win, 7-0.
Leading the offense for the Lions were McCarty and Onderko who each had a pair of hits in the game while Onderko added 2 RBI's. On the mound was Casasanta who threw his second complete game of the week facing 27 batters with 5 strike outs.
Beaver plays their final game of spring break tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. against Miami Hamilton as they look to improve on their 2-3 record this week.
