Penn State York
Penn State York got off to a hot start scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Beaver got on the board with sacrifice rbi outs from Junior Jake Debo (New Brighton, PA/New Brighton) and Senior Derek Bozic (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver Falls) cutting York's lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the first. York would score four runs in the top of the third increasing their lead to 7-2. Debo hit a ground ball scoring Junior Blaise McCarty (Beaver Falls, PA/Riverside) making the score 7-3. York added three runs in the top of the fourth going up 10-3. Beaver would come back to score three runs in the bottom of the inning cutting into the lead 10-6. Junior Nick Casasanta (Moon Twp, PA/Moon) hit a sacrifice fly which scored Bozic making the deficit 10-7. York scored three runs in the top of the sixth and one in the seventh to make the score 14-7 going into the bottom of the seventh. Beaver attempted to comeback with Bozic hitting a double this scoring Debo. Sophomore Matt Capo (Moon Twp. PA/Moon) singled in two runs cutting the score to 14-10. McCarty doubled scoring a run making the score 14-11. The rally would come up short with York winning the first game with a final score 14-11.
Bozic, Capo, and Sophomore Duncan Miklos (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) led the team with 2 hits. Bozic and Capo both had two rbis.
Sophomore Colin Macon (Freedom, PA/Freedom) took the loss giving up six earned runs in two innings.
A pitching duel would be the tale of game two as Sophomore Andrew Emes took the mound for Beaver. Emes held York scoreless through four innings but the would get to him in the fourth scoring two runs and taking the lead 2-0. Casasanta would single in McCarty for Beaver's first run of the game making the score 2-1. York added a run in the top of the sixth. Senior Tyler Thellman (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) singled in McCarty to cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth. Beaver would produce two hits in the bottom of the seventh but could not get a run across to extend the game loosing 3-2.
McCarty, Capo, and Sophomore Shawn Shaner (Adrian, PA/Kittanning) led Beaver with two hits. McCarty would score both runs for Beaver.
Emes took the loss throwing all seven innings giving up two earned runs and striking out six.
Beaver is in action again Saturday, April 23, at 2:00 p.m. against Penn State Worthington Scranton at Scranton.
