Beaver splits doubleheader with Houghton in the snow
Monaca,PA- Beaver would win the first game 11-5, and loose the next 8-6.

By: Ty Cole- On a chilly day Beaver would start the first game fast scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. Junior Nick Casasanta (Moon Twp, PA/Moon) would single scoring Senior shortstop Tyler Thellman (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) giving Beaver a 2-0 lead. Junior Steve Antolic (Freedom, PA/Freedom) would single in Junior Blaise McCarty (Beaver Falls, PA/Riverside) making the score 5-0 in the bottom of the second. Houghton would score five runs in the third inning tieing the game. The Beaver offense would explode though in the 4th inning off a Junior Jake Debo (New Brighton, PA/New Brighton) grand slam giving the lead back to Beaver. Antolic would add another rbi single to make the score 10-5. Beaver would add another run making the final score 11-5.
Antolic would lead Beaver's offense with two hits. Debo had four rbis followed by Antolic with two. Sophomore Daniel Vanderslice (Sharon, PA/Sharon) would pick up the win going six innings giving up five earned runs and striking out two.
Snow would start to fall at the begining of the second game as Houghton would jump out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first ining. The Beaver offense would wake up in the bottom of the second scoring three runs on one hit. Houghton added a run and Beaver would add two making the score 6-5 heading into the top of the fourth. Houghton increased their lead going into the bottom of the seventh with Beaver trailing 8-5. Sophomore Duncan Miklos (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) led off the inning with a double, McCarty added a infield single moving Miklos to third with Thellman stepping up to the plate. Thellman reached on a fielders choice scoring Miklos cutting the lead down to two runs. The rally would come up short with Beaver loosing with the final score 8-6.
Hits were scattered thought the lineup all with one hit. Matt Sweikowlski (Zelienople, PA/ SEnaca Valley) took the loss giving up 11 hits 0 walks and 3 strikeouts.
Beaver falls to 3-9 on the season with their next game coming Thursday, March 24, against Butler CCC a double header starting at 2 p.m. at Butler.
