Beaver Splits in double header against St Josephs of Vermont
Monaca PA—Beaver splits double header with St Josephs after thrilling Comeback win.
It was a breezy afternoon as the Penn State beaver baseball team hosted a double header against St. Joseph's college of Vermont. The Lions are coming off of a 1-1 split with Butler Community College and look to keep the streak going.
Despite their previous win, Beaver would come out sluggish putting them in a large deficit early on. By the start of the 4th inning Beaver was completely scoreless giving St Joseph's complete momentum. Second baseman Blaise McCarty led the way for the Penn State Beaver Lions, connecting 3 out of his three hits at bat. However his efforts were not enough to stage a comeback causing the Lions to lose 8-0 in the first game.
The second game started to take on the same pattern as the first with St Joseph's scoring 2 runs in the opening inning. St Joseph's slowly but surely began to gain momentum as well leading the game 3-1 until the top of the 7th.
However in the 7th inning things changed.
After a series of unbelievable baseball by both teams the game began to get interesting as it boiled down to the final moments. Beaver gained a huge pickup by freshman Duncan Miklos who started off the 7th inning with a double. Eventually Beaver found themselves with 2 on base as Nick Casasanta stepped up to bat.
You could feel the anticipation and energy in the air as the crowd cheered for the home team as they competed to turn this game around. After a single by Casasanta Beaver were able to take advantage of the game putting them up 4 to 3 to end the game. The Penn State Beaver Lions finished the day 1-1, with a thrilling second game victory against St Josephs. Beaver finished with strong play from Matt Capo, Duncan Milkos and Rob Thrlin.
The Penn State Beaver will face off next against conference New Kensington Wednesday April 8, 2015 for a double header at home.
