Beaver falls to rival Greater Allegheny in Spring Training
Vero Beach, FL -- Beaver drops opener in Vero Beach, Florida.
In their spring training opener, Beaver faced off against PSUAC rival Greater Allegheny. In the top of the first inning, Beaver jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after Nick Casasanta (Moon Twp, PA / Moon) doubled to score Blaise McCarty (Beaver Falls, PA / Riverside) who led the inning off with a single. Their second run of the inning came after Casasanta was caught stealing, allowing Rob Trhlin (Chesterland, OH / West Geauga), who reached on an error, to score. In the bottom of the inning, Greater Allegheny would even the score at 2-2.
In the thrid and fourth innings, Greater Allegheny would add three runs in each, increasing their lead to 8-2 going into the 7th inning. In the top of the 7th, Beaver made a push to get back into the game, but the offense was only able to generate one run as they fell by a final score of 8-3.
Leading the way for Beaver was Casasanta who went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI. He was followed by McCarty who also went 1 for 3. On the mound was Matt Sweikowski (Zelienople, PA / Seneca Valley) who threw 6 innings giving up 8 hits and 8 runs while striking out 6.
Beaver will return to action later today when they face Rock Valley College.
