Beaver sweeps Hazleton

Hazleton, PA – Beaver sweeps Hazleton in their final regular season PSUAC games.

Game one of the afternoon started as a back and forth battle with the lead in the game changing hands 4 times before Beaver took control.  With the score 3-2 in favor of Hazleton going into the fourth inning, Beaver solidified their defense and pitching and then went to work offensively as they put up two runs in the fourth (4-3), two more in the fifth (6-3) followed by four in the sixth (10-3).  In the seventh inning Beaver sealed the victory adding an additional three runs and playing flawless defense as they cruised to victory by a final score of 13-3. 

Leading the way offensively were Fran O'Connor (Freedom, PA/Freedom) who went 3 for 5 with 4 RBI's, and Derek Bozic (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver Falls) and Matt Sweikowski (Zelienople, PA/Seneca Valley) who both went 3 for 3.

On the mound was Austin Logan (Beaver, PA/Beaver) who threw all seven innings giving up 9 hits and 3 runs but stuck out 7 of the 30  Hazleton batters.

The second game of the afternoon featured Beaver's offense in a big way as all nine batters earned at least one hit.  The Lions had three batters who went 2 for 4 and three more who went 2 for 3 in the game.  Senior, Tyler Schuster (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver Falls) hit his first home run of the year as he went 1 for 4 in the 13-5 victory.

On the mound, to close the regular season, was Matt Sweikowski who struck out 6 in his 7 innings of work. 

Beaver finishes the regular season 12-8 in the PSUAC and will advance to the PSUAC Tournament which is scheduled to start Thursday, May 1^st at Penn State Mont Alto.
