York, PA- Beaver improved to 10-5 overall and 8-0 in the PSUAC on Sunday, after defeating Penn State York 8-0 and 6-2.
In game one, Beaver scored first, plating one in the top of the first. Beaver added another in the third, before breaking it open in the sixth, exploding for 6 runs to push the lead to 8-0. Freshman Blaise McCarty (Beaver Falls, PA/Riverside) was outstanding on the mound, throwing a shut-out complete game. McCarty gave up three hits, while walking two and striking out eleven. Offensively, Beaver pounded out ten hits. Leading the way were Seniors Rob Trhlin (Chestland, OH/West Geauga) and Grant Scott (Sewickley, PA/Ann Arbor Pioneer). Trhlin went 3-4, scoring twice and driving in two runs; while Scott went 3-4 scoring one run and driving in two.
In game two, York struck first, scoring two in the first. From that point it was all Beaver. The Lions tied it in the second scoring twice, and then taking the lead in the the fifth scoring three more (5-2). Beaver added an insurance run in the sixth to make it 6-2. Offensively, Beaver had 11 hits, led by two hits a piece by McCarty, Trhlin, and Freshman Matt Rose (Beaver, PA/Beaver). Freshman Austin Logan (Beaver, Pa/Beaver) pitched the complete game, giving up seven hits, two earned runs, while striking out nine.
Beaver returns to action Saturday, April 12th, at 2 p.m. when they host Penn State Schuylkill.
