Monaca, PA- The Penn State Beaver Baseball team took two from Fayette on Tuesday, pushing their winning streak to 4. Beaver is also 7-3 in their last ten games.
In game one, Freshman Blaise McCarty (Beaver Falls, PA/Riverside) pitched a gem, throwing a no hitter in five innings, giving up one walk, and striking out 11. Beaver exploded for 5 runs in the first, and never looked back. They added 2 in the third and 3 in the fifth to evoke the mercy rule, and took game 1 10-0. Junior Tyler Thellman (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) and Sophomore Fran O'Connor (Freedom, PA/Freedom) led the offense with two hits a piece. O'Connor also drove in 4 runs in the win.
In game two, after scoring three in the first, Beaver urupted for 13 in the second to open this game up. Fayette did score five in the fifth, but it was no where near enough as Beaver took game two 19-7. Freshman Austin Logan (Beaver, PA/Beaver) earned the win, throwing 3 innings, giving up no earned runs on two hits while striking out three. Offensively, 12 Beaver players collected a total of 16 hits in the win. Freshman Nick Casasanta (Moon Twp, PA/Moon) went 2-3, scoring one run and driving in four. Freshman Gavin High (Lancaster, PA/Conetoga Valley) and Albert Araiza (Phoenix, Az/St Mary's) and Senior Grant Scott (Sewickly, PA/Ann Arbor Pioneer) collected 2 hits a piece. Freshman Derek Bozic (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver Falls) went 1 for 3 and drove in 3 runs.
Beaver (6-5, 4-0) will return to action this weekend, when they travel to Mont Alto and York for a Saturday and Sunday affair. First pitch Saturday at Mont Alto is scheduled for 2 p.m.
