Beaver wins over Fayette to clinch playoff berth
Beaver wins 9-2.
Monaca, PA -- Beaver faced Fayette this afternoon in a single game, a rain date from April 10th. Both teams played solid defense as the game remained scoreless after two and a half innings of play, but in the bottom of the third inning the bats for Beaver came alive. With two runners on, senior Grant Scott (Sewickley, PA/Ann Arbor Pioneer) singled to score both runners giving the Lions a 2 run lead. A single by Cory Wagner (Monaca, PA/Center) and a walk by Tom Lewis (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) loaded the bases for Jim Musgrave (Economy, PA/Ambridge) who tripled and then scored on the throw to earn 4 RBI's in his at bat. At the end of the third inning Beaver had a 6-0 lead and never looked back. Fayette did add 2 runs in the top of the sixth inning, but the Lions of Beaver quickly answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning coming off of hits by Bill Harrington (Monaca, PA/Central Valley) and Cory Wagner and held Fayette scoreless to end the game in the top of the 7th inning.
Leading the offense was Wagner who went 2 for 3 on the day.
On the mound for Beaver was senior, Vincent Beatty (Rochester, PA/Rochester) who threw a complete game striking out 5 of the 26 batters faced and only gave up 4 hits and 2 runs.
This win secured Beaver the #4 seed in the PSUAC playoffs which will be played at the end of the week.
