York, PA -- After having the weekend road trip pushed back a day due to weather, the Lions faced Penn State York this afternoon. In game one, junior Tyler Schuster (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver Falls) threw a complete game, striking out nine batters, walking seven, giving up just four hits and two earned runs. Despite his good day on the mound, he did not have the run support he needed. Junior, Mike Karas (Imperial, PA/West Allegheny) had two hits and senior, Grant Scott (Sewickley, PA/Ann Arbor Pioneer) homered, scoring the lone run of the game. In a defensive battle on the field, York won the game on a walk off single.
In game two, Beaver came back with their bats on fire. They were lead by their seniors offenseively with four of the nine having outstanding days. Markus Allen (New Castle, PA/Union) went 4 for 5 with three doubles and three RBI's, Cory Wagner (Monaca, PA/Center) and Jim Musgrave (Economy, PA/Ambridge) each had two hits and two RBI's and Alex Filippi (Aliquippa, PA/Center) also added two RBI's. Sophomore, Bill Harrington (Monaca, PA/Central Valley) also added two hits.
On the mound for the Lions was freshman, Matt Sweikowski (Zelienople, PA/Seneca Valley) who got the win going 5 and 1/3 innings and striking out four batters. He gave up seven hits, six walks and three earned runs in his outting.
Beaver returns to action tomorrow as they continue their road trip and face Penn State Mont Alto in a double header scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
