Finishing off the weekend against fellow PSUAC conference member Penn State York, Beaver collected two home victories by scores of 2-1 and 9-2. In the first game of the doubleheader, Cory Wagner (Monaca, Center High School) got the start for Beaver and went the complete game giving up one run on just two hits while striking out six and earned the win. Offensively for Beaver, both Garrett Covalt (Aliquippa, Hopewell) and Zack DelTurco each had a double and both of them also ended the contest with two hits. Mike Karas (Imperial, West Allegheny) had an RBI in the third inning when he drove in Covalt and Tom Lewis (Aliquippa, Hopewell) scored in the sixth inning on a Covalt RBI single.
Game two was also a victory for Beaver, as they won 9-2. Beaver's starting pitcher was Vinny Beatty (Rochester, Rochester) who went all seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits while striking out five as he picked up the win. Beaver was led offensively by DelTurco, Karas, Wagner and Alex Filippi (Aliquippa, Center) as they each had two hits. DelTurco, Filippi, Covalt and Billy Harrington (Monaca, Central Valley) each had a double in the game and Wagner had a two-run home run and finished with three RBI.
Beaver will take a few days off and will play again on Thursday when they host Penn State Greater Allegheny.
