Bethany, WV - When the Beaver baseball team traveled to Bethany College yesterday, they decided to only bring their bats and not their gloves as they scored 26 runs in two games but allowed 26 runs in what could be considered one of the longest 12 innings in college baseball history. The second game was called after 5 innings due to darkness and the finals were 19-11 in game one with a Bethany victory and 15-7 in game two, a Beaver victory.
In the marathon that was game one, Beaver plated 3 runs in the first, 4 runs in the second and 4 runs in the third, and failed to score anymore in the contest. The 11 runs plated in the first three innings were not nearly enough as Bethany plated 16 runs in the first three innings to take the lead for good. In the contest, Alex Filippi (Aliquippa, Center High School), James Pashuta (Beaver Falls, Beaver Falls) and Markus Allen (New Castle, Union) each had two hits and Zack DelTurco (Monaca, Monaca) had two RBI's.
The boys of Beaver bounced back in game 2, winning by the score of 15-7. The game was once again a shoot-out as both teams swung the bats well again. The game was called after 5 innings on account of darkness. Beaver had 18 hits in the 5 inning game, with three hits each from Allen, DelTurco and Grant Scott (Sewickley, Ann Arbor Pioneer). Filippi, James Musgrave (Economy, Ambridge) and Tom Lewis (Aliquippa, Hopewell) each finished with two hits. DelTurco drove in three runs for Beaver and Musgrave, Scott and Andrew DiPietrantonio (Beaver, Beaver) had two RBI. The pitching for Beaver was better in the second game of the day, with both Tyler Schuster (Beaver Falls, Beaver Falls) and Vince Beatty (Rochester, Rochester) pitching well and Beatty coming away with the victory.
The Beaver baseball team will head east this weekend, playing Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Saturday and Penn College on Sunday.
