Pittsburgh, PA - At Point Park University, the Penn State Beaver baseball team dropped a pair of games Thursday afternoon. The first of the doubleheaders saw Beaver fall 9-1. The starting pitcher was Tyler Schuster (Beaver Falls, Beaver Falls High School) and he was charged with the loss. Schuster pitched three innings giving up seven earned runs on seven hits. Steve Galamarini (New Castle, Union High School) followed Schuster and pitched a solid three innings giving up two earned runs on five hits. The Beaver offense totaled six hits in the contest including doubles from Tom Lewis (Aliquippa, Hopewell High School), James Musgrave (Economy, Ambridge High School) and Cory Wagner (Monaca, Center High School). Beaver's lone run came in the sixth inning when Grant Scott (Sewickley, Ann Arbor Pioneer High School) had a RBI single driving in Mike Karas (Imperial, West Allegheny High School).
The second game featured a more competitive contest, but the result was the same as Beaver fell again to Point Park, this time by a score of 4-1. Beaver's starter in game two was Ronnie Wilkins (Hookstown, South Side High School). Wilkins suffered the loss, going four innings and giving up only one earned run on three hits. In relief, Vinny Beatty (Rochester, Rochester High School) pitched two innings, allowing two runs on two hits. The Beaver offense compiled six hits, including three hits from Karas and two from Garrett Covalt (Aliquippa, Hopewell High School). The Beaver run was plated in the fifth inning when Karas singled and later scored on a Covalt RBI single.
The losses move Beaver's record to 3-6 and their next contest will be on Sunday, March 18th when they travel to Notre Dame, Ohio.
